Sometimes I think that after all these years with polymer clay, nothing should really bother me anymore. I've baked, sanded, and drilled so many pieces – routine should have been my middle name by now, but no...
The photo you see here is from July 20, 2024—and it pretty much documents how my July went: chaotic. Instead of beautiful earrings, I found small, jet-black briquettes in front of me after baking. Not delicate, not elegant, but more like a portion of miniature barbecue charcoal 😅
After more than ten hours of work, which were completely ruined, I was so angry that in desperation I wrote to my best friend: "There are no earrings in August!!!!" The oven was only set 10 degrees too warm.
(I'll probably keep the screenshot of this message forever—as a reminder of how close genius and madness can sometimes be.)
But at least if the production goes wrong, the disaster is worth a blog post. 😂 And perhaps that's precisely the secret magic of polymer clay: no matter how much experience you have, it's always a little unpredictable.
And HEY—I couldn't have picked a more authentic month for charcoal, could I?! PS: Of course there was an August collection; I'm not going to get rid of polymer clay that easily! 🖤
